LEADERSHIP THROUGH SERVICE SINCE 1946

Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion

As one of the fundamental pillars of this organization, Bruin Belles Service Association is dedicated to upholding Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion within our organization. Though we are actively educating ourselves and finding new ways to engage in DEI, Bruin Belles Services Association acknowledges its historical bias as well as its failure to promote inclusivity. Because of our ample engagement and presence within both the UCLA and greater LA community, we believe it is integral for our members to educate themselves on how to promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for Belles and the UCLA community.

Bruin Belles Service Association aims to acknowledge historical biases and further promot
e and support DEI initiatives in our community. We are committed to further educating ourselves on DEI topics including but not limited to gender, race, sexuality, ability, age, and class. By increasing our active involvement in DEI, we aim to create spaces for members of marginalized communities to feel safe and succeed within this organization. Furthermore, we believe that this type of education is necessary to fostering meaningful interactions with members of different communities. Our meetings include guest speakers who discuss everything from healthcare bias, LGBTQ+ education, and housing crisis. We also aim to partner with cultural organizations on our campus to help immerse and educate our members about the diverse groups that surround us.

Bruin Belles Service Association recognizes that there is a major gap to cover in regard to reflecting on our past and actively engaging in DEI education and initiatives currently. Aiming to promote and advance DEI is a major task that cannot be achieved in a short period, however, we hope to continue learning from others and through outreach training, having mindful and sincere conversations surrounding DEI topics and current issues, and developing proper DEI agenda within our organization—from our recruitment process to engagement with our community. With DEI and Bruin Belles, our purpose is to promote well educated, thoughtful, and instinctive pre-professionals that care about and acknowledge the world around them.
